How does a Dental Veneer Procedure Work?

Don’t be left in the dark about this cosmetic procedure. Find out more about it now!

Once you decide to get porcelain veneers from your Stamford dentists Dr. Irina Pogosian and Dr. Thomas Ohlson, these are the steps Veneersyou can expect to go through before you get your new smile.

Consultation

Before you can get dental veneers your Stamford cosmetic dentist will need to make sure that this is the procedure for you. We will go through your medical history and also perform a thorough physical exam to make sure that there are no cavities or gum disease. If we do find dental problems we will need to treat them before you can get your veneers. We will also take X-rays to detect issues that we may not be able to see during a physical exam alone.

Preparation

The next step to getting your veneers requires us to prepare your teeth for their new and improved look. Before we can apply the veneers we will need to file down about half a millimeter of tooth enamel. This will ensure that your smile isn’t too bulky or unnatural once the veneers are applied. Fortunately, tooth preparation for this procedure is minimal.

Impressions

After your teeth have been prepared we will then take impressions of your smile. These impressions will be sent to a lab where they will use these measurements to create your very own porcelain veneers. This can take a couple weeks to complete.

Veneer Application

Once your veneers are finished you will come back into our office where we will check the shade and fit and get your final approval before adhering these thin shells to the front of your teeth using special cement.

Follow-up

Your dentist in Stamford, CT will schedule a follow-up appointment a couple weeks later to make sure that your veneers are doing well and are still fitting properly.
